What makes a crate airline-acceptable Qué hace que un transportín sea aceptado

These are the features agents actually look for, drawn from the IATA-style container guidance most carriers follow. Think of it as the airline's mental checklist: Estas son las características que los agentes realmente revisan, tomadas de la guía de contenedores estilo IATA que siguen casi todas las aerolíneas. 1. Rigid construction. Hard plastic, fiberglass, wood or metal — a shell that doesn't flex, bow or collapse when pressed. A crate can pass all five and still be refused for one reason: it's the wrong size for the animal inside it. That's the next section — and the heart of this guide. Every airline chart, every IATA reference and every check-in decision ultimately comes down to one sentence: inside the closed crate, your pet must be able to stand fully upright without its head or ear tips touching the ceiling, turn around freely, and lie down in a natural position. Not curled into a ball to fit — naturally. If the agent sees ears brushing the roof, the crate fails, whatever the label says.    With the animal standing normally: length from the tip of the nose to the base of the tail (not the tail tip), height from the floor to the top of the head — or to the ear tips if they stand taller — and width across the widest point of the shoulders. Write the numbers down; you'll use them everywhere.    Each airline publishes how it converts those measurements into a required crate size, and they don't all do it the same way. Use the sizing guidance on your carrier's own pet page for your route and aircraft — not a generic chart from a crate box or a forum. When your pet lands between two sizes, go up, never down.    Put your pet inside, close the door, and watch: full standing height with air above the ears, a complete turn without contorting, lying down stretched out. Do it days before the flight, not the night before — if anything fails, you still have time to exchange the crate and let your pet get used to the new one.    Bulldogs, pugs, Persian cats and other flat-faced breeds breathe with more effort, so airlines often ask for a larger crate with more ventilation than the measurements alone suggest — and several carriers restrict when and whether these breeds fly at all. If your pet is brachycephalic, confirm the airline's specific policy before anything else. The right answer depends on one thing: where in the aircraft your pet will travel. The cabin and the hold have opposite requirements — and mixing them up is one of the most common (and most avoidable) check-in failures.
